The South Florida Daily Edit: 6 Stories I’m Watching Today — September 29, 2026
If you’ve been following my Daily Edit, you know I’m always watching what’s coming next — new restaurants, development, private clubs, real estate and those little local stories you sometimes hear about before everyone else does.
And today there’s a lot happening.
Here are the six South Florida stories on my radar today:
1. Porsche Design Is Bringing an Invitation-Only Private Club to West Palm
This one immediately got my attention.
Porsche Design and Newgard Development Group have announced Porsche Design Concours, a new invitation-only ownership and private club concept coming to West Palm Beach.
Think 22 privately owned automobile studios, roughly 2,700 to 6,000 square feet, paired with a private clubhouse featuring dining, wellness, padel, coworking, lounges, events and concierge services.
And here's the interesting part: you don't have to own a Porsche to join.
The West Palm location is targeted to open in 2028. The exact site hasn't been announced yet — and yes, I’m already watching for it.
2. Another 400-Room Hotel Is Moving Forward in Downtown West Palm
West Palm isn't slowing down.
Palm Beach County has approved an agreement involving a proposed 18-story, 400-room hotel near the Palm Beach County Convention Center at 940 S. Rosemary Avenue.
Between the hotels, offices, restaurants and private clubs coming into this part of West Palm, the transformation happening downtown is pretty incredible to watch.
Status: Approved.
3. West Palm Point Now Has Until 2029
Another downtown West Palm project I’ve been following is West Palm Point at 801 S. Dixie Highway.
The approximately 25-story development is planned for more than 400,000 square feet of office space plus ground-floor retail.
The project is already under construction, but its completion timeline can now extend into 2029.
Important distinction: delayed, not canceled.
4. Could Palm Beach County Hit Pause on More Ag Reserve Development?
This could become a very important story for anyone living in West Boca, West Delray or West Boynton.
Palm Beach County Commissioner Maria Sachs has raised the possibility of pausing additional housing development within the approximately 22,000-acre Agricultural Reserve.
If you're wondering where that is, you probably know the area better than you think. It includes areas around communities like Seven Bridges, Valencia and the Canyon communities, mixed with farmland, nurseries and preserve land.
Nothing has changed yet. There is no approved moratorium. Specific land-use proposals could come forward in October.
I’ll definitely be following this one.
5. We Finally Know Who Bought 8 Homes in Palm Meadows
Remember the mystery buyer who purchased eight homes inside Palm Meadows Estates in West Boynton Beach?
It was Larry Ellison.
The Oracle co-founder has now been identified in new reporting as the buyer behind the nearly $10 million group of purchases made through an LLC in 2023.
The homes were reportedly acquired to accommodate staff supporting Ellison's family.
And yes — this is the same Larry Ellison who owns the approximately $173 million oceanfront estate in Manalapan.
Definitely not your everyday South Florida real estate purchase.
6. Rumba Cubana Is Coming to the West Palm Area
Another restaurant to put on your radar.
New Jersey-based Rumba Cubana is planning its first Florida location in the West Palm Beach area.
The family-owned restaurant group is known for Cuban food, cocktails and a fun, lively atmosphere.
We don't have an exact location or opening date yet.
My Takeaway Today
West Palm is clearly having a moment, but what I find interesting is how different the conversations are depending on where you look.
Downtown, we're talking about Porsche Design private clubs, hotels and major development.
Drive west toward Boca, Delray and Boynton, and the conversation becomes how much more we should actually build.
That contrast says a lot about where South Florida is right now.
I’ll keep digging through what’s being announced, proposed and quietly filed so you don't have to.
